Rotation
Direction of Rotation
Spindle rotation is measured as either clockwise, counter-clockwise, or both. This designation is determined while viewing the spindle from the nose end. While most spindle motors are capable of spinning in both directions, rotation can become critical when locking nuts are used to secure tooling as improper rotation could potentially loosen the tool. Spindles utilizing HSK or CAT type tooling are immune to rotation restrictions and can spin freely in both directions.
