Precision Bearing Type

Angular Contact Steel Ball
By far the most common spindle bearing, steel bearings are capable of handling heavy spindle loading without issue. Though not capable of attaining high speeds, durable steel balls are more than adequate for most applications.
Angular Contact Ceramic Ball
The latest in bearing technology, ceramic ball bearings have 60% less mass than a comparably sized steel ball. At high speeds as bearing balls are pushed outwards by centrifugal force, bearings can begin to lose their shape leading to rapid wear and deterioration. Ceramic balls are not affected as much as steel at similar speeds, allowing for up to 30% higher speeds without sacrificing bearing life as well as some measure of electrical insulation.
Cylindrical Roller
Mostly used for lower speed applications, roller bearings are able to handle higher loads. Usually used in pairs and oriented back to back, roller bearings allow for higher spindle stiffness levels and are typically grease lubricated.
